New Statements by Mr. Adnan Oktar (16 June 2015)
EXPLANATIONS FROM THE QUR’AN ABOUT THE ADMIRATION OF DISBELIEF FOR POWER
At that time idols were representing the unity of the state. In other words, the state was gathering people around those idols. Like a club, I mean. Not that they believed in those idols, it was like going to a club. In the time of our Prophet (saas) for example, there were four well -known idols. They were the official idols of the state. They were supported by the state. When people advocated those idols, it meant they advocated the state. The state is equal to idols; idols are equal to the state, in other words. They were interrelated with the state.
Also modern states always need an idol. They generate new idols and people gather around those idols in some countries. It gives a feeling of unity to the state, strengthens a sense of esprits de corps. It is something around which people come together. It is an irreligious society, it is a pagan society but it needs to have a belief, a philosophy. They gather around it, like a club. One of them asks, “Which idol do you worship?”, and the other asks, “Which idol do you worship?”. He replies he worships the same idol and a citizenship-like connection is built. This provides some kind of friendship and security . So, those who do not serve that idol are considered to have risen against the state. They are considered not to recognize the state. If an idol stands for itself, it would be invaluable for them. If it is merely a stone idol, no one would care about it. But as it represents a state, it is very important for them. That is why they respect it. For example, they clean up the place where the idol stands upon, they butter up to it, put food in front of it, put plates before it, and some of them even sacrifice animals to the idol. And word spreads; people talk about it, they say someone came and sacrificed a camel to the idol for example. At that moment, he gains a good standing in the view of the state and the people. He is well-regarded, in other words he serves the club. Otherwise he also knows what an idol is; it’s not that he cares about it.
Hazrat Abraham (as) destroyed the idols, only leaving the biggest one behind. And he does that as a tactic, he does so to mock them. Because such a group mentality developed back then, such irrational things they respected, he mocked at them by using that respect, that awkward club mentality. Of course they don’t believe it, it is not something they believe in. He does so just to make fun of them, to ridicule them. He laughs at their situation. Indeed they attack him as soon as he answers. I mean, people see that Hazrat Abraham (as) did not tell the truth. They ask, “Who destroyed our idols?”, he answers, The biggest one must have done it”. He says so to show them how miserable they are. The state is humiliated by his attack. In other words, the idolatrous state is basically humiliated with the attack he did. Then, the state defends itself against this humiliation to protect the system. And they say let us burn him, Hazrat Abraham (as). Because if they can burn him, the state will have protected its honor. So it regains its authority. As they could not burn him, the state was humiliated even more. Therefore, Hazrat Abraham (as) took control there. The system always works like that in general.
EXPLANATION OF VERSE FROM SURAT AL-FURQAN
“Do you suppose that most of them hear or understand?” (Surat Al-Furqan, 44)
It is usually referred to the people there, “Do you suppose that most of them hear or understand?” They were so obsessed with idols, they were so unconscious with their club mentality, and their way of speaking was meaningless and very irrational. But since they had a lot of respect for each other’s rules and idolized those rules, they did even the funniest thing with a great enthusiasm. Nobody would criticize them. Funny rituals, funny behaviors, for example were respected. As no one comes and says, “The king is naked”, and the system survives. But as prophets radically humiliate these systems, the system is destroyed from its roots. But of course prophets are extremely brave.
IN SAME STATES THERE ARE SYSTEMS OF IDOLATRY PEOPLE GATHER AROUND: THEY IDOLIZE PEOPLE
People say to Hazrat Hud (as), for example” in Surah Hud, 53, I seek refuge in Allah from cursed satan, “We will not forsake our gods for what you say”. What are gods? It is a symbolic system that unites whole nation there. In the UK, for example, there are such idol systems and people gather around them. They make tiny idols. They make idols made of humans. For example, one guy comes and people go crazy when they see him, they yell, throw themselves around. It is not that they care about him much; it is because they believe an idol is worshipped in such manner. It is kind of a worshipping. A man comes and people throw themselves around, shouting with all their power. They idolize him. There is nothing to set the world on fire; he is normally a poor fellow. He doesn’t have an extraordinary quality. But idol welcoming ceremonies give them excitement, gathering around an idol. One of them asks, for example, “Do you like that idol?”, “I like it a lot” the other replies, “How about you?”, “I like it too” he answers. “Tomorrow that idol is coming, we are going there” he says. As soon as they see him, they go crazy, scream, yells, some of them cry. It is not that it is a big thing; there is nothing to go crazy about. If they see him alone, they wouldn’t care. If you do not introduce him as an idol and if he goes to their houses “What do you want my friend?” they ask, they would not want him, they wouldn’t give him any time, “What do you want, are you a beggar?” But when he is introduced as an idol, they go insane and gather around that idol.
For example, they produce various idolatry systems. Those idolatry systems have their unique clothes, unique hair styles, unique music models. When they gather around a certain idol, a unity is formed. Excitement of that unity affects them very much.
For example, they say let’s worship satan, its not that they believe in satan. It is not that these satanists believe in satan. They make up a superficial idol. They normally take no notice of satan, they don’t believe in satan. But they do it as they need something to gather around. For example, someone comes and sets up some rules, and everybody shows respect to these rules. For example he says, “You need to kill cats”, “Do we?” they say and everybody follows this rule. “You need to kill chickens” he says for example, and everybody follows it. They know it is disgusting and horrible. But that rule is set up once. It is just like that in a system of idolatry. There is no turning back.
CONSIDERING ITS MILITARY POWER, TECHNOLOGY ETC., THEY IDOLIZE AMERICA IN A WAY; THEY SEE AMERICA LIKE HEAVEN
“‘Carry on as you are! Hold fast to your gods’” (Surah Sad, 6) they say. This is devotion to the system of the state.
For example, what represents the United States of America? The American flag, those stars, those parallel lines, red, blue and white. There is another banner they use, they use such colors in it as wall. Their philosophy is gathered around it. For example, T-shirts, the pants of youngsters are like that, they wear them to the restaurants they go to; There is a culture and mentality there. There is a way of laughing, for example. For example cowboy hats become a symbol. They gather around that symbol. For example, the way they laugh, the way they walk, their indifference, their mentality to punish others, their suppressive mentality are all classical traditions of that idolatrous system. What does America do for example? When it desires, when it sees something it doesn’t like, it immediately bombs it. It does not occur to them to convince others or talk about an approach with the spirit of the Bible. Because instead of eliminating this idolatrous system, they strengthen it. it is attached to them like a patch. They can’t get rid of this patch, it is a patch of at least 150 years, they can’t get rid of it.
For example, he receives a Green Card, got involved in the American paradise. In other words, he [sees himself like] moving from the Asian hell to the American paradise. He sees Asia as a kind of hell. So, they try so hard to move to America, with a crazy ambition, to be involved in the American heaven. He thinks he would at least sort of attain immortality, he’d find happiness.
But everywhere Allah exits – and He exists everywhere – everywhere is Heaven with faith. If you do not believe in Allah, wherever you go, it is hell.
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO FIGHT AGAINST IDOLS. IF IT IS DANGEROUS, A PERSON MIGHT PRETEND TO BE ON IDOL’S SIDE AND KEEP HIS FAITH
“We conveyed the tribe of Israel across the sea and they came upon some people who were devoting themselves to some idols which they had.” So, they show their incompetence, their devotion ond respect to them. “They said, ‘Musa, give us a god just as these people have gods’..." (Surat Al-A’raf, 138) they say. “Establish an idolatrous system” they say and “We are going to follow it”. Because in Egypt, there is a golden calf of 10 tons, 20 tons. When he is asked, “Whom are you devoted to?” he answers I’m devoted to the calf. Everybody respects this people of the calf. If you are from the people of the calf, it is easier for you to find a job, to find food. You are subjected to the system of the state; you are a man of Pharaoh. What Pharaoh says when he promises rewards is “You will be close to the state”. But there are people who live in an idolatrous state system and hide their faith. They deceive idols; they are not devoted to them. They pretend to be devoted, but they do it as a tactic. Hazrat Abraham (as) did this too. Similarly the person in the Pharaoh’s palace, who is probably Hazrat Khidr (as), hides himself as well.
It is not necessary to fight against idols. If needed, a person might present himself as being on the idol’s side and nonetheless keeping his true faith. In other words, if it is dangerous, if it is likely for the idol-worshippers to destroy him, kill him or prevent him from practicing his religion, the person would not be responsible for it, as stated in the verse. He can pretend as if he is on the idol-worshipper’s side, I mean if they will hurt him otherwise.
