A century of scientific research - and common sense - reveal that there are no mechanisms or laws in nature to organize simple molecules into a living cell. In fact as the Second Law of Thermodynamics proposes, the molecules on Earth would naturally tend to disorganize; which means an increase in entropy.

Ilya Prigogine is probably the most important scientist of the 20th century who tried to find a solution to this problem of the evolutionary theory. His theory of dissipative structures asserted that energy flow into a system could help it to organize itself in such a manner to create life. In the last three decades, evolutionists have been using Prigogine"s thesis to argue that life can arise from non-living matter through its inherent self-organizational properties. The evolutionist objections to our previous article on the subject, titled Thermodynamics Falsifies Evolution, has centered on these self-organizational scenarios.

A very recent comment from Ilya Prigogine himself, however, shows that the evolutionist impasse on the origin of life is still very deep. This comment comes from a correspondence between Karl Priest of the Intelligent Design movement and Ilya Prigogine. In his reply to Priest"s question about the origin of life, Prigogine gave this remarkable answer:

Dear Mr. Priest,

The results of my research in thermodynamics were to show that non-equilibrium systems may lead to complex structures. For a recent account, see my book "Modern Thermodynamics, From Heat Engines to Dissipative Structures" (D. Kondepudi and I. Prigogine, John Wiley & Sons, Chichester, 1998). However, this is still far from a theory of biological evolution. To my knowledge, we have still not discovered the mechanisms, which lead to the remarkable adaptation between life, and environments, which we observe in nature. Darwin"s theory remains important but it is far from giving a complete answer.

Not surprisingly, Prigogine continues to hope to find evolutionary mechanisms that will supposedly explain the origin of life. However, he sincerely admits that no such mechanism has yet been discovered.

We hope that this frank explanation from Prigogine himself may help evolutionists to get rid of their dogmatism and see nature as it is: There is no known laws, mechanisms or properties of matter which can explain the origin of life and its complexity. The scientific evidence clearly points that an intelligent, purposeful design lies in the origin of life of Earth.
