When we say “love”, THE LOVE FINDS ITS VALUE IN RELATION TO THE ORDEALS ONE GOES THROUGH. For instance in the case of Layla and Majnun, the essential factor is the suffering they go through. If Layla and Majnun were in love in a palace, that would not be of any interest.

The soul of passion appears when one goes through suffering in order to reach his love. Then the true depth of love comes about; then it becomes persuasive and satisfactory. That is what Almigty Allah wants.

If you say you are in love with Allah, how will you show that love? The struggle you make against hardship, advocating the Beloved One under the hardest of circumstances and siding with Him. Then your faith, love and compassion becomes evident. Otherwise it is not recognized.

ALLAH PUTS US ON TRIAL, FOR ALMIGHTY ALLAH WANTS GENUINE LOVE. If everyone loves one another like robots, if Allah made it obligatory for them, you would be loving each other under compulsion. That is not what Allah wants. ALLAH WANTS US TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER AMID PAIN, SUFFERING AND HARDSHIP.

Allah does not want artificial love. He does not want compulsory love. He wants the fervent love of a lover. He wants that suffering that goes hand-in-hand with love.

ALLAH MAKES HIM THE MAHDI ONLY BECAUSE HE TOLERATES SUFFERING AND TROUBLE, AND BECAUSE OF HIS SINCERE LOVE OF ALLAH. In a time span of ten thousand, twenty thousand years, Allah grants that blessing, the blessing of being the Mahdi, only to him. Only because of his endurance to that hardship and trouble.

If a person goes through the suffering of Hazrat Mahdi (as) only for a day, a person who does not act in compliance with the Qur’an, may Allah forbid, may deny Allah. Only one day. While it stirs up one’s love for Allah, it may make a person with weak faith lose his belief. That is the secret of the test.

The system of Hazrat Mahdi (as) is not something that appears all of a sudden in a flamboyant manner. The system of Hazrat Mahdi (as) is suffering. After a long period of time, Allah makes Islam reign throughout the world all of a sudden.

The soul is trained through hardships and ordeals.

A Muslim should not say; "Why did the Unity of Islam not yet established, why do we suffer? Why do we have such hardships?" He will be patient. That is because Heaven comes at the end of patience and there is the good pleasure of Allah. You would lose if you do not have patience.

No matter what happens, Muslims always stand strong. Allah is the One Who creates all scourges, all troubles. Those who do not suffer hardships would not know love.

Love for Allah would become even more beautiful when one suffers ordeals and endures pain for that sake.

You patiently endure difficulties and thus you show your love. If you do not endure difficulties, gratification would not be formed either. “I feel love but I do not endure difficulties,” that is not acceptable. Even in the story of Layla and Majnun they endure difficulties and that is that love appears nice to us. When one endures difficulties for the sake of Allah, when one endures pain, it would be beautiful. Or else everyone could feel love.

The Prophet Joseph (pbuh) went through many ordeals, sufferings and trainings; with profound faith Allah gave his face radiance and grandeur. Allah gave an extraordinary charisma to him.

Difficulties bound to come up. That is how the pleasure of the Hereafter would be perceived as is due. Without difficulties one would not know love. Those who have not been through any kind of difficulty cannot conceive love.
