A human being is a very fragile being. Allah says in the Qur’an, “Man is created weak.” Whether a man or a woman, they are all weak. They are easily negatively affected. They may get exhausted easily, feel exhausted and get sick easily. As a requisite of the trial in this world, they are created in that manner. That is because Allah does not want us to love this world.
If a person goes through the suffering of Hazrat Mahdi (as) only for a day, a person who does not act in compliance with the Qur’an, may Allah forbid, may deny Allah. Only one day. While it stirs up one’s love for Allah, it may make a person with weak faith lose his belief. That is the secret of the test.
IN THE ABSENCE OF THE TEST EVERYTHING COMES TO AN END, MAY ALLAH FORBID. EVERYTHING LOSES ITS MEANING. Love, friendship, life, everything ceases to have any meaning, becomes nothing. Nothing beautiful remains left. For instance, the beauty of woman no longer means anything. The beauty of flowers, the beauty of plants, the entire universe is devastated.
Profound faith, that is the greatest blessing. Submission to Allah and profound faith.. That is because Allah tests people with many things. Some people squirm in these tests from time to time. That is a grave mistake. Good opinion of and love for Allah should never be given up. Allah should never be opened to discussion. A Muslim devotes himself to Allah with such a profound love that he never ever gives up his good opinion and love for Allah, not even momentarily.
The archangels Gabriel and Michael are constantly on Mahdi (pbuh)'s side but Mahdi does not see them. Our Prophet (saas) says "He is backed up with three thousand angels." Apart from that they are with him wherever he goes to. Gabriel and Michael never leave his side. But Mahdi (pbuh) cannot see them. Otherwise the free will of his mind would be removed, his testing would end.
No miracle would ever remove the freewill of mind. We are in a world of testing. Some people assume that – for instance- the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) would make a sign with his hand and food would instantly appear on the table. How is that possible? It would be unjust for other ummahs. Almighty Allah would not do such a thing. Nothing that would remove the freewill of mind would ever happen. When the Prophet Jesus prays, they find a table set for them in the other room.
This world is not a place to have fun, it is not a funfair. This is a place of trial. If people assume that they will just be having fun here, that they will labor after their cheques and bonds, that they will get married and have weddings and get on with their lives, then Allah does not give them comfort. Allah says; "I created everything as a trial." If they fail to understand, then Allah explains it to them in a way that they will surely understand.
This world is a world of trial, people enter through one door and go out from another. We all are going to reach that honor, that beauty and go to the Sight of Allah insha'Allah. Almighty Allah says "Every self will taste death." There is one beautiful tasting and one painful tasting. May Allah make us among those who taste death nicely.
What a beautiful environment of trial Allah has created. Allah veils Himself to the people with weak faith, and opens and shows Himself even further to strong people. Faith then becomes precious, it becomes even more beautiful. That is because you find Him by searching, you give make effort to that end.
Why do babies die? Babies come to this world as angels, and they pass by as angels. They are created like that specifically. They are coming to this world as the children of Heaven and they are taken from this world and go to Heaven to be the children of Heaven again. Almighty Allah says; “I have sent them as the children of the Heaven to you so that you can see them, they will welcome you in the Hereafter. If you act patiently they will be your children in the Heaven. That is it.
We are going to be tested. For instance while you are going on cheerfully all of a sudden you can have a sore back. For instance just when you thought that you’ve passed your class, you may fail. You can get into trouble all of a sudden. Everything can happen. You should put your trust in Allah. This is not a fairground, this is not a play ground. That is a testing environment, you are in a hall of trial. You will be asked questions and you will answer them successfully one after the other by the leave of Allah. You will give right answers. You will try not to give them wrong answers. And thus you would be trained.
There will definitely be good ones, and there will definitely be bad ones. Good ones will struggle against the bad ones, bad ones will be eliminated and good ones will remain superior. In the Hereafter they will enter Heaven after being educated. As the people of love, compassion, mercy, aesthetics, beauty and quality, they will enjoy Heaven. For a person who did not receive this training, Heaven would not have any meaning.
God is the One Who educates children. Just like it was in the story of the Prophet Ishmael (pbuh), just like it was in the story of the Prophet Joseph (pbuh). Children are tested as well. God tests them with hardships and with ease as well so that they would be reminded by Him when they grow up. Being reminded by Him is a condition of this test anyway.
We are in a very short course, it really is very short. We are being trained day and night and we are improving ourselves, we are taking the civility of the Heaven. Without the civility of the Heaven if were to go to the Heaven we would have been like robots. We have to get that training in order to be able to take endless pleasure in the Heaven.
This is a world that would not let you stay in your houses in comfort and deal with your checks, title deeds and your trade. It is not a world that you can be graduated from your school in peace and get married and deal with your own business. God would not give way to this. God did not create this world for this. God wants the appearance of the Mahdi; He wants the appearance of the Jesus Messiah and the global rule of Islam.
What is the characteristic of a lover? It is never deserting the loved one despite all sorts of sufferings and hardships. A lover would never leave his loved one even under the hardest conditions. God is showing us how much we are living with that spirit of a lover. That is because in the Hereafter, the existence and the manifestations of God will be the greatest pleasure we will be given.
A Muslim should see the beautiful things and also the ugly ones; yet he should prefer the beautiful things and look for the wisdom behind the ugliness. There is nothing ugly in the Heaven. Ugliness is only created in this world for testing. Everything and everyone is beautiful in the Heaven; trees, plants, people, children and all food.
People die every day. We are living in the world, this is a place of testing. People get sick every day. How do they come up with the idea of mourning? There is no such thing in the Qur'an. There is no such understanding in Islam. It only has a place in idolatry, in the totemist mentality, in the belief system of the idolaters. This is a characteristic of pagan religions, but there is no such thing in Islam.
God gives one aggressive, abnormal wrong feelings to the lower self, but He also shows the ways to be protected against those with the verses of the Qur’an. The whole system of trial is founded upon that anyways. People need to recognize this highly dangerous threat and be alerted and be careful against it. We are to look for the acts that please God the most.
This world is not real, the Hereafter is because this world is a place of trial, it possesses the characteristics of both Heaven and Hell. But Muslims push aside those characteristics of Hell by using their wisdom. And because they thus bring forth the characteristics of Heaven, they appear as exquisite beings.
One goes through a very staggering trial. People should not expect such an easy trial and they should not be surprised to see that it is not easy. Otherwise, it would not be a trial anyway. The man wants to live a life with the mindset of a retired person and then die that way; that is not going to happen. Muslims go through a staggering trial if they have genuine faith.
Threats are blessings in disguise. If Islam is preached in a threatening environment, it would be a religious service. If one says, “Let me only perform my prayers and avoid threats,” his deeds will decrease considerably. But a Muslim would want to collect as many good deeds as he could. Why would one agree to attain one deed when it is possible to attain a million times more?
Even under threats a Muslim would wholeheartedly want to do the right thing. He should say, “If only I were threatened so that I could attain much bigger deeds.” Our Prophet (saas) always lived under threats; he lived under the threats of Abu Jahl, Abu Lahab, the threats of the Pharaohs of that time. The Prophet Moses always lived under the threat of the Pharaoh.
What are the components of preaching religion? Pain, difficulties and threats… If these increase, the value of the preaching would increase as well, and you would attain the good pleasure of God even more. If your goal is to attain the good pleasure and the mercy of God, you would lovingly endure those. Living such a cowardly, timid life in this transient world is vey humiliating.
One says, “I have lived a very happy life, I have never faced any troubles all my life.” That is not a gain. First of all he won’t go to Heaven. In the Qur’an God says; “Or did you suppose that you would enter the Garden without facing the same as those who came before you?” (Surat Al-Baqara, 214) A Muslim should strive on the path of God, face difficulties and make an effort against unbelief, against the hypocrites.
A Muslim should definitely live suffering through ordeals and hardships. For instance one writes books and makes research for God while the other goes around having fun. But Muslims suffer through hardships. Then you look and see that he is very radiant and has become so beautiful. The other one says, “I am living my life in leisure,” but you see that he has become dull and blunt and has lost his meaning. Such a person cannot have fun. He imagines that he is having fun but he cannot.
A person who suffers through ordeals and who experiences hardships will become beautiful. He becomes even more beautiful as time passes and he becomes even younger. If the unbelievers live through the same things, they would collapse. But Muslims become even younger and even more beautiful with hardships. These have the exact opposite impact.
Some people say, “What if God did not create pain?” Well then you would be obtuse. Let us say that you have gone by the river in Heaven; you would simply look at it with vain eyes. But if you have suffered through ordeals, you would kiss each and every single one of the pebble stones in Heaven numerous times. Almighty God gives people a lengthy life and makes them experience these ordeals because it is crucial. After that people people return to normal.
God says that, "This world is not the place for play and idle sport. The Heaven is the place for play and idle sport. This world is a place for trial." That is why if you fasten yourself to this world, you would be stuck with it, says God. But if you aim for the Hereafter, if you aim My approval, I will make you happy for all eternity, you will have fun and laugh. Those who fasten themselves to this world would merely grovel, let me say that much. They would merely wallow and flounder. Nothing else would ever happen.
Muslims become handsome with faith, they become beautiful with trial. If that trial is taken away, Muslims would be devastated, may God forbid. I mean if one does not come across any difficulties, that means they acquire no good merits. We came to this world to be tested; that is why Almighty God says, "Or did you suppose that you would enter the Garden without facing the same as those who came before you?"
Materialists say, "If God exists, He should turn this world into Heaven. Why are there all those troubles and pains?" Look at the reasoning here. Haven't you come here to be tested? Since you are not here to have fun, since you are here to be tested, of course there will be pain and troubles. Of course there will be hardship. How are you going to be tested without those hardships?
In the Qur'an, God says "We tested you with many trials" (Surah Ta ha; 40) to the Prophet Moses (pbuh). 'We have tested you,' God says. And then he (Prophet Moses (pbuh)) becomes a prophet with firm resolve. If the things he survived were ordinary things, he would have been an ordinary person. But since he has been tested extraordinarily, he became an extraordinary personality.
Something happens and we act patiently. But we also reinforce our patience phase by phase. What is this, then? This is education. An education for what? An education for Heaven. God chooses a handful of Muslims and educates them here. When they are directly put in Heaven, what happened to the Prophet Adam (pbuh) happens. It doesn't work that way, that is to say. With the education given the mind settles, the personality develops and one starts appreciating the blessings of God.
The blather of unbelief is so difficult that it is a trial in this world. It necessitates patience, that is for one. Secondly it necessitates attention. From which point that impertinent attitude is to be refuted should be investigated separately. These are not always from the same point of view, they all have to be proven with verses and then a rationale should be propounded.
Ours is the world of trial. The important thing is to make Islam prevail in the world. The rest is not at all important. Once Islam prevails in the world, everyone would be at ease, everything you have would be under guarantee. If Islam does not prevail in the world, it would turn into a living hell.
One asks, "Why do we have difficulties in this world?" That is because otherwise people are unable to leave the world behind. This difficult environment is a must to separate hypocrites from Muslims, devout ones and the good ones. Or else everyone would power through easiness and so do the hypocrites. But in hardship, hypocrites fail and cannot power through.
Some Muslims say, "I am a good person, I would not be troubled with difficulties." Actually, that would be very weird. If you are seriously favored in a testing environment, it would annul the free will of mind. It would even take the free will of your mind. You are being tested as well. That is why prophets have diseases as well.
The moment trouble comes onto someone is very valuable. That is a beautiful moment of trial. Muslims should not let that opportunity pass by and they should say, "O my Lord, I come from You and I will return to You. I am Yours, You are the One Who creates everything. The trouble that came on to me is ready in Your Sight before it ever happened to me. I am ready for every type of trial You will give me. I am truly in need of any good You have in store for me. Bestow upon me the honor of living through this trial in beauty." Those around him should also be congratulating him for that trial. It is not right to dither.
How can something be considered right if the opposite of it does not exist? How will we be tried if satan and the lower-self do not exist? How can we recognize what is beautiful, what is right? It is impossible. It is impossible to achieve any higher love, any higher wisdom in this way. Then we would be no different than a child, we would not be able to develop.
In this world the trial we are living is a seemingly one; actually, in the esoteric sense, we are being educated, this world is a course. Because God already knows what we will do. He is the One Who created us. In other words, God knows what we will do since eternally before. We have already been here and done that. The point of this trial is to train us, to show us our true selves. God makes us face our true selves. In other words, He makes us love ourselves. He is preparing us for the afterlife.
Satan, the self, dissentious people, blood-shedders, warmongers, thieves, evil people; all are a part of the trial. "If it weren't for them..." some people say. They will always exist. If the trial exists, so will they. What you must do is to respond to them patiently through wisdom and willpower and defeat them.
The period of the system of Mahdi is a long one. The reason this period will be as long as 40 years is so that it possesses a great spiritual merit. Otherwise, God could establish the reign of Islam in one year if He wished so. However, the believers would earn one year’s worth of spiritual merit in that case. God extended the period of the system of Mahdi to 40 years so that it has great spiritual merit.
